Food Safety professionals will need to carefully review the Final Rule published by USDA’s Food Safety Inspection Service on in the May 8 Federal Register. The Rule presents alternative and partially conflicting requirements for manufacturers, distributors, and retailers of multi-ingredient products which may contain ingredients subject to the jurisdiction of both FDA and USDA.

The document is titled: Requirements for Official Establishments To Notify FSIS of Adulterated or Misbranded Product, Prepare and Maintain Written Recall Procedures, and Document Certain Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points System Plan Reassessments. (Citation 77 FR 26929)

We post the Final Rule below and believe that regulatory science professionals should read the original document rather than rely upon commentators who may, or may not, fully understand the requirements of both the FSIS and RFS systems.
