The CDC has announced that, as of  November 1, 2011, a total of 139 persons have been infected with one of the four outbreak-associated strains of Listeria monocytogenes.  Twenty-nine deaths and one miscarriage have been reported from 28 states. Because of the latency period of up to 70 days, more illnesses and deaths are possible.
