As required by Congress, FDA has issued its Summary Report - Antimicrobials Sold or Distributed for Use in Food-Producing Animals – 2011. This release was accompanied by the release by CDC of its 2010 NARMS report - National Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System.

As one of only a handful of credentialed scientists in Congress, Louis Slaughter is our only national legislator with a degree in microbiology. (See “Too many lawyers, too few scientists” posted on our Essays Page – August 2, 2011.)

As such, her February 6, 2013 Press Release on the NARMS Report is more worthy of note than the typical Congressional Press Release. Please see our previous post on her sponsorship of the Preservation of Antibiotics for Medical Treatment Act (PAMTA) – posted below Mar. 10, 2011.

The full citation for the NARMS Report is: CDC. National Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System for Enteric Bacteria (NARMS): Human Isolates Final Report, 2010. Atlanta, Georgia: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, CDC, 2012.

We post below the FDA Antimicrobials Report, the CDC NARMS Report, and Congresswoman Slaughter’s Press release.
